First day of 7-day

October 19th, 2013|Capt Art's Blog|

Hello anglers: Today we fished for yellowfin tuna this afternoon. The fish were associated with common dolphin. We managed to land 51 fish in the 12-30 pound range, with most of the fish being 15 pounds. We trolled throught the leading edge of the dolphin and hooked fish on the troll and then stopped and used live bait. Everyone had a chance and we got a chance to wet a line after a long run. Headed for the yellowtail zone and will be there at daylight tomorrow. More then, Team Searcher

Passport books and passport cards for 2014

October 18th, 2013|Capt Art's Blog|

The day has arrived for anglers who enjoy long-range fishing in Baja California waters to get a passport. If you are planning a trip that lasts longer than 3 days in 2014, it is probable a passport will be required for us to complete the necessary documents for your entry into Mexican territorial waters (within 12 miles of land). Shorter trips will be fishing offshore and outside of that range, so will not be required to carry the FMM tourism forms.
We are still asking for clarification on this requirement and perhaps other forms of ID proving citizenship will suffice, but we are encouraging you to be prepared. A passport can take some time to apply for and receive back.

If you don’t have a passport book or card, you’ll need to look into this State Department web site to apply.

Look along the left-hand side of the above page for the pertinent links. Consider a less expensive passport card if you don’t plan to fly internationally. It is valid for land and sea crossings only.

Yellowtail

October 16th, 2013|Capt Art's Blog|

Hello anglers: Excellent fishing today for yellowtail in the 18-25 pound class. Dropper-loops with a live sardine was the method of choice, with a few fish on surface and yo-yo irons. Capt Carl and Dorman Austin from Mira Loma are pictured with a nice size yellowtail. The weather is awesome as you can tell by the “Sun’s Out, Guns Out” attire.
Headed north,Team Searcher

Yellowfin!

October 15th, 2013|Capt Art's Blog|

Hello aanglers: We had a good afternoon toda with lots of action for yellowfin tuna in the 10-30 pound fish. Most of the fish are 12-15 pounds. All methods worked today: live bait, casting lures with a little chrome color, and the trolling plugs were the most effective. Everyone had a good time! Capt Carl is pictured with Terry Wade from San Diego with one of his tuna.
Headed south for yellowtail tomorrow,
Team Searcher

Different day for bluefin

October 14th, 2013|Capt Art's Blog|

Hello anglers: Well we decided to stay in the bluefin area another day. It was hard to leave the area and not have another chance at those quality fish. Unfortunately it was a different day today. There were a few fish seen and caught, but nothing like yesterday. Those darn bluefin can be very frustrating at times. We are headed south to try for some yellowfin tuna tomorrow. The weather forecast looks good and the reports are good from other boats in the area.
More tomorrow, Team Searcher

First day bluefin, part 2

October 13th, 2013|Capt Art's Blog|

Hello anglers: Long-time Searcher family member, Bill Zemba has one his best days ever fishing for bluefin tuna.We are still landing these 40-50 pound fish. More later, Team Searcher

End of day report:
We drifted until dark with the same school of bluefin tuna. What a phenomenal day of fishing–the quality of the fish, the great weather, and people and the atmosphere with only 14 passengers is awesome. There is so much room on the boat you wonder where everyone is and then you realize are all at the rail. We landed a daily limit of bluefin tuna and we have decided to stay another day and hope we can get lucky and find another school.
More tomorrow, Team Searcher

First day bluefin

October 12th, 2013|Capt Art's Blog|

Hello anglers: We got lucky this morning and found a school of the 40-60 pound bluefin tuna. We are keeping 1-3 fish hooked all the time. We hope this continues today. Capt Carl assisted on this fish hooked by Richard Yoshioka. It could be a 60-pound fish.

Mr Mas and Mr bluefin

October 9th, 2013|Capt Art's Blog|

Hello anglers: Today we are having great fishing for 40-60 pound bluefin tuna. The weather is good and we have been drifting almost all morning. The outfit of choice would be 40-pound mono with 40 pound floro carbon and a 3/0 circle hook. Pictured is Capt Aaron with long-time Searcher customer Mas Kaneko from Los Angeles.
Some of you have heard the story of my history with Mas, dating back to the early 70’s when I was very young and just starting out. He and his brother Aki used to charter the New Bluefin back then we had some great fishing then and we continue to have good fishing presently.
More later, Team Searcher

Tuesday night

October 9th, 2013|Capt Art's Blog|

Hello anglers: We ended the day with a biting school of 40-60 pound bluefin tuna. It was after sunset and so we didn’t have much daylight to work with. Everyone had another chance at a quality bluefin. We ended up with 46 bluefin for the day. The count doesn’t represent the fishng with heavy losses for various reasons as ususal. These fish are tough. We are spending the night and trying  again tomorrow. Hoping for a repeat, Team Searcher

Bluefin today

October 8th, 2013|Capt Art's Blog|

Hello anglers: We moved north to try for bluefin tuna and we are having some success today. Everyone has had a chance at a 40-60 pound fish. Hopefully we can continue landing these fish the rest of the day. Pictured with Capt Greg Noonan is long-time Searcher family member Kim Day from Elk Grove, CA with a nice bluefin tuna.
