The day has arrived for anglers who enjoy long-range fishing in Baja California waters to get a passport. If you are planning a trip that lasts longer than 3 days in 2014, it is probable a passport will be required for us to complete the necessary documents for your entry into Mexican territorial waters (within 12 miles of land). Shorter trips will be fishing offshore and outside of that range, so will not be required to carry the FMM tourism forms.
We are still asking for clarification on this requirement and perhaps other forms of ID proving citizenship will suffice, but we are encouraging you to be prepared. A passport can take some time to apply for and receive back.

If you don’t have a passport book or card, you’ll need to look into this State Department web site to apply.

Look along the left-hand side of the above page for the pertinent links. Consider a less expensive passport card if you don’t plan to fly internationally. It is valid for land and sea crossings only.
