Back on the bluefin!

August 14th, 2013|Capt Art's Blog|

Hello anglers: We have had pretty good fishing for bluefin tuna this morning! There are mixed sizes with fish in the 15 -50 pound range. A flyline sardine on 30 or 40 pound mono with the same size florocarbon leader has been the tackle of choice today. Dennis Yoshioka from Bishop is pictured with Capt Aaron and his 25 pound bluefin tuna.We hope the fishing contiues at this pace, if so we will have a tremendous day of fishing.

First time angler and great friend to Searcher, Armando Quintero from San Raphael, CA is pictured with Greg Noonan and his nice bluefin tuna. The weather is great with very little wind and no seas. Trolling around

August 12th, 2013|Capt Art's Blog|

Hello anglers: We made it  up to the bluefin tuna zone at daylight. It didn’t take long to find a small school of fish in the 25- 60 pound range. We managed to land 13 of that grade fish. We went a little further northwest and had a troll fish that was 15 pounds and we landed a few of that size fish. A little further northwest and we found a larger school of mixed size fish that were 15-40 pounds and we finished our trip there. Long-time Searcher customer Goerge Rumage is pictured with Capt Aaron and his 40-pound bluefin tuna. Headed home, Team Searcher

Great day of yellowtail fishing

August 7th, 2013|Capt Art's Blog|

Hello anglers: Today was a great day of fishing! The yellowtail were biting throughout the morning and into early afternoon. Everyone had a chance to catch plenty of yellows. The method of choice was a dropper loop set-up with 50-80 pound test, a 4/0 – 6/0 J hook, and a 16 oz torpedo sinker, all with a live sardine and down to the bottom. There were a few fish caught with the yo-yo method, a 6x jr blue and white as usual, with 40-60 pound test line. We all had a really good time today with lots of laughs and comraderie at the rail with all our friends from Strictly Fish in Lakewood. We deserved to have a good day after paying some dues offshore the two days prior. We are travelling north tonight to get closer to home and have more fishing time on Thursday with hopefully a chance at some bluefin tuna. Team Searcher
