Morning Report:

Howdy anglers,

Slow morning here again for yellowtail but the ones we caught were really nice grade.  We’re on the move for some tuna this afternoon.

Wish us luck,

Capt Aaron and the Searcher Crew

Evening Report:
Howdy anglers,

Steady action this afternoon on nice grade tuna from 60lbs to 159lbs. We had many bites and many losses due to normal tackle failure and also to the sharks – but they did let some by for our anglers. We’re headed towards home tomorrow and we will be looking for kelps for a couple of hours before we call it a trip. Here is our 159pounder landed by Tom Byer.

Howdy anglers,

Slow afternoon for us: we had really good signs of the tuna but they didn’t bite as well as yesterday,  but we’re not giving up hope yet! We’re gonna try it again tomorrow.  The only thing I want to  recommend for these fish out here is to make sure you have a good 80 to 120 lb rod and a good working two speed  that is designed for these grade of fish: they’re tough on the gear and having that gear with a TIGHT drag is the only way you’re gonna land these fish with the sharks around.

(Review drag setting guidelines in Capt Aaron’s video here: Drag Settings)

More tomorrow,

Howdy anglers,

Little slower morning today on the yellows, but the ones we caught were really nice fish! Here is another nice yellow caught this morning by Ray Woodson of New Jersey, with Ben Hart as his assist.  The method has been 80lb with a 2 oz slider or flyline on a 7/0 j hook or a dropper loop on the bottom with a 16oz sinker minimum.

Howdy anglers,

We had a chance at some nice yellowfin tuna this afternoon. Lots of fish jumping out of the water. We had some losses due to tackle failure but we also lost some to sharks as well. We’re gonna try to duplicate what we did today tomorrow. Here is a sample of the tuna caught this afternoon: Dan Carrier with his 163lb yellowfin tuna. This is his first trip to the island.

Howdy anglers,

More action on kelps this afternoon. We found a kelp with a nice school of yellowfin tuna on it and they were hungry.  The fish were 10lb avg,  it was a great start of the trip paired with the great dorado fishing this morning –  the weather is still nice and we’re hoping for more action tomorrow.  Here is Tim Farmer with another dorado from today.

Hello all,

We stopped on the coast for some yellowtail action. This morning was very slow and disappointing, but after lunch the conditions changed and the yellows showed up! We had a few hours of action with live sardine with a standard J hook and 30 -40 pound test line being the primary method. Almost everyone landed a good size yellowtail with lots of opportunities. Here’s John Waggoner from Kentucky with a good size yellowtail.

We are headed north now and travelling tomorrow to arrive in San Diego on Sunday morning.

Hello all,

We looked offshore today for dorado and wahoo in warm water. We saw multiple kelp paddies today but only a few had some fish associated with them. Everyone had a chance at a dorado or two. There wasn’t any sign of wahoo today. In the past we have done really well offshore on kelps for wahoo. Maybe next time wahoo will be associated with kelps. Here’s a photo of some nice size dorado and 3 happy fisherman.

Headed to the coast to try for yellowtail tomorrow to finish the trip.
