Fall Forecast Overview and Tackle Tips

October 6th, 2022|Did You Know?, News|

Captain Art here to report on current conditions and field reports from Alijos Rocks and The Ridge, which could be destinations for our upcoming fall long-range trips.

Wahoo and yellowfin tuna have been biting at the Rocks. The wahoo are 25-50# and the yellowfin are 10-40#. The Ridge has warm water and we are seeing yellowtail (10-30#) and yellowfin tuna (10-40#). Dorado (5-20#) are biting offshore and boats are catching yellowtail on the coast. We could be targeting them on the way home.

Looks to be an exciting fall season with good variety of target species!

We are attaching a couple of recent Tackle Tip Thursday videos on wahoo. We’ll post a few more as we get closer!

GOT BLUEFIN?

And looking for ways to prepare it for friends and family?

We asked our own Chef Josh for a sauce recipe that is sure to please!

  • 1 cup soy sauce

  • 1 cup Mirin (rice wine)

  • 2 cups water

  • 1/4 cup cream

  • 3 stalks green onion, cut into thirds

  • 3 cloves garlic, smashed

  • 1/2 cup honey

  • 1 quarter ginger root, sliced

  • 1/3 cup corn starch slurry or vegetable starch substitute

Get pan hot on high heat.

Add Mirin to cook off alcohol.

Add soy sauce, water, onions, garlic, ginger and bring to boil. Reduce to rolling simmer.

Cook for about five to ten minutes to let flavors infuse. Then add honey and cream.

Cook for three more minutes, then add slurry to thicken. Strain to finish.

Mid-Summer Fish Processor Update

August 8th, 2022|Did You Know?|

They are busy! Loads of boats fishing and returning with great catches means the fish processors are working as fast and hard as they can.

Please make your arrangements with a fish processor as soon as you make a fishing trip reservation. If you choose not to do so, the processors may not be able to accept your catch back at the dock. If you haven’t made arrangements yet for a 2022 trip, please take care of that right away.

Check here and make the necessary inquiries to avoid disappointment at the dock! FISH PROCESSORS FOR SEARCHER

Summer reminders–please take note before your 2022 trip!

July 30th, 2022|Did You Know?|

Fuel surcharge: We currently have a fuel surcharge of $25 per day of the trip. We are deciding this amount on a trip-by-trip basis since prices are fluctuating. Please look for your pre-trip email (about 2 weeks prior to departure) for all the details, including this additional charge.

Wait lists: We receive cancellations for trips, sometimes very short notice. Please add yourself to our wait lists if a 2022 trip fits your schedule! We will call if a spot comes open so you can go fishing! (And should you need to cancel a trip, our first question will be: “Did you get trip insurance?” in case we can’t refund your deposit.)

Fish processors: Please make a reservation with your fish processor! It’s peak season and they are very busy. They need to know you plan to use their services so they can provide excellent service.
